Shane Gould won 5 individual Olympic swimming medals at the 1972 Munich Olympic Games - 3 Gold (200 Individual Medley, 200 Freestyle, 400 Freestyle), 1 Silver (800 Freestyle), and 1 Bronze (100 Freestyle).
In September of 1972, Shane held every women’s Freestyle world record 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 1500m, as well as the 200m Individual Medley.

Munich 1972 - the Australian swimming team wore gold caps while competing. Goggles were used in training but not in competition races. From 1976 goggles were allowed in races.

Despite having given away top-level swimming many years ago, Shane still keeps fit by swimming 3 times a week and competes occasionally in Masters and Open Water swimming events.
